The breakdown by Pat
Ash and I were very proud of the boys on Saturday. It’s great to see a team bounce back after being beaten the week before. It’s even more encouraging to see them use the systems we practice every week and play fantastic rugby.
When it comes to good rugby, the first half of the game against Silverdale was about as good as it gets. At one point I looked at Ash and said, “ I think that phase of play was just about perfect”. This followed the boys taking the ball from the kick off, running it up to half way with three of the backs, setting it for the forwards, five or six ‘pick and goes” by the forwards, and then out through the back line to score in the corner. Pretty much the whole team worked together to score that try. That’s a great reflection on what we have been doing and thinking about at practice.
Standing up the top of North Head a few weeks ago on one of our training runs, Ash asked the boys to think about “what they are doing for the team” at any given point during the game?. How am I contributing to the team? This question has now been asked many times during practice and it seems that the boys are answering the question themselves.
Well done boys.
